Installation: Recess display case Tangible Community project Exhibition Kunstmuseum The Hague

Looking with your hands? In a museum, that's almost always a no go, but a temporary installation actually invites you to do so. Inspired by his visually impaired mother, Michelangelo Winklaar designed a couture collection in 2021 that visitors were allowed to touch. And although the collection was designed with visually impaired people in mind, in practice it appeals to a much wider audience. Because the shapes, textures and fabrics beg to be touched and... so in this case, they are allowed to! In a special glass showcase with holes, this object with the designs of Michelangelo Winklaar was seen in 2024 in the hall of Kunstmuseum The Hague. Created during the open-air exhibition Lange Voor Haute Couture. With the help of passers-by, a dress was textured by knotting wool. The end result is a design with a corset composed of six layers of tulle, consisting of 48 pattern pieces. It reflects the detail work and craftsmanship characteristic of Winklaar's style. The presentation was created in collaboration with Museumnacht Den Haag and Dutch Fashion Embassy
